The City of Grande Prairie recognizes this gap in the existing sidewalk and trail network. Engineering Services, in line with the recently adopted Community Mobility Plan is working to identify all gaps within the network and prioritize the installations. As budget allows, these gaps will be installed over the next few years. Thank you for taking the time to write in. This current location is not scheduled for the 2014 program.

Thank you for responding, however I think I can speak on behalf of this community when I say that this issue needs to be taken more seriously. We are not requesting this project be hurried along for "recreational" reasons, though this too would be nice. Having no paved walkway/ path is quite a public safety concern. And not just for the residents of Copperwood. There are quite a few kids that live in Crystal Lake area, that obviously travel via bike, scooter, foot, etc to school in Crystal Heights. They are often on the roadway. Speeds are quite high on this road (which yes is enforcement related), however if we had a sidewalk/ path, people would not need to bike, walk, etc on the roadway. I would respectfully request that the City re-prioritize this specific stretch before someone gets hurt. Thank you.

I agree with Candace. Perhaps if your employees drove past the small park on a sunny evening before supper and saw the 20+ small children that already live in phase one, the danger factor may be more easily understood. Many areas are established with older families. It makes sense that younger families and younger children have a different priority than families without the same needs. Fair is not always equal. As the second phase is underway, the needs and dangers will be greater. Tragedy is not the time to deal with these situations. Please feel free to contact me if you would like a further list of my experience with teenagers hit by vehicles this past year in Grande Prairie. The kids in Copperwood are a younger demographic and more likely to be in danger; our city can prevent this.

The developers need to be held accountable too. Infrastructure such as proper paths, sidewalks, accessibility/mobility and proper road systems should be put in place first. Instead they build houses in the middle of a field, make millions of dollars and then expect the tax payer to put in all the infrastructure. Its appalling how these developers couldn't care less about public safety. we have the same issue in Crystal heights. The path system just ends and takes you right onto 116th. I'm encouraged that the city is working towards a community mobility plan which is much over-due. They do need to hold the developers accountable too.
