Thanks for your notice. In a residential zoning district, one commercial vehicle, under 11,000 lbs GVW if it does not exceed 10 ft in height from wheel to top (including cargo) or ten feet in length if filed with the zoning enforcement officer. Zoning Regulations 3.30.13. We will investigate and see that this vehicle is put on file (if it meets criteria).
I live on Washington Ave and the biggest traffic problem on the road is the idiots speeding through the neighborhood going to do their drug deals on Pearl St. Not the multiple commercial vehicles that are usually parked on the road.Let's find a way to fix that problem before one of the neighborhood kids gets hit by a car.
Making Washington one way would not be a good idea, in my opinion. I think it would just add to the problem. I don't see that the Safelite or Cox van, which are both regularly parked there pose an issue...
I would be more apt to argue that vehicles parking on both sides of the street (and sometimes facing the wrong direction) cause a safety issue when combined with the rate of speed of the vehicles.
There are many families with young children who do play outside and the vehicles drive very quickly through Washington, Garden street and especially Pease.
Could be an opportunity for the town to collect some revenue with tickets and parking fines... That way, the habit can be broken of the area being a raceway before someone's child or pet gets hit.
I suppose the best way to handle this, at least initially, is to ensure that the appropriate zoning regulations are being adhered to. After all, everyone has to live, work and play in the neighborhood and regulations such as these are in place for a reason. We want to make living in Thompsonville as desirable and enjoyable for everyone as we can. Better neighborhoods make for better living... not to mention better property values.
