Description
The parking triangle (across from Colette Bakery) in this intersection is a serious traffic hazard to vehicles navigating this area. Cars parked in this triangle obscure views of traffic approaching from Main Street, turns from Albion onto Main street have little visibility because of parked vehicles. Cars approaching from Main Street also cannot see vehicles exiting Albion Street as there are parked cars blocking sightlines of approaching traffic. This area has significant pedestrian activity due to being an outlet for the Missituk School (Hicks Ave) and an MBTA bus stop, this parking triangle makes the intersection especially dangerous to cars and pedestrians alike. The parking triangle is particularly problematic when utilized by larger SUV's or construction vehicles. Last week there was a huge dump truck in the parking triangle, it blocked visibility from basically every approach to the intersection. The parking spaces are not protected by any sort of barrier, vehicles leave by simply pulling into traffic unpredictably. Placing an unprotected wedge of parking spaces in this intersection is an unfortunate traffic hazard. I hope that the city will consider eliminating this small number of parking spots for the safety of drivers and pedestrians, or at the least improving this parking wedge so as to mitigate these dangers.

Thank you for reporting your concern to the City of Medford via SeeClickFix.
The pavement markings and signs in this rea as well as two others were implemented as part of a Safe Routes to School quick build grant. As compared to the previous existing conditions, this intersection is more orderly and provides more pedestrian improvements/warnings than it formerly had - including improving sight lines by installing painted bumpouts, etc. Sections of Albion and Bow were formally made one-way to better organize traffic navigating this area. If vehicles parked in allocated spaces, there is at least 20 feet of sight line available to all moves (which didn't formerly exist. and is common at most intersections in a City setting). The improvements were made to improve safety while balancing historical parking use/needs.
If one would like to suggest formally restricting all parking in the traffic island, a formal request should be sent to the Traffic Commission. At that time, others that may be for or against such a change would be able to voice their opinion.
Sincerely,
Todd Blake

Their is NO signs on how the City expects people to park with this unorthodox
parking set up.
