Description

A coyote has been living on the trail behind First Ave and Canal Lane for at least 3 months. The trail is quite busy with walkers, bikers, dogs, young children. I can see the field that it lives in from my house and often see the coyote walking. I have stopped walking my dog along that trail since the coyote has crossed within feet of us. Just last week I could see the coyote just sitting on the edge of the trail. Had to turn around and warn other dog walkers to do the same.

The coyote killed a neighbor's cat last week. Many neighbors have contacted the city of Walnut Creek, Animal Control and Fish and Wildlife and are basically told there is nothing that they can do, we should make a lot of noise and chase it off. With so many young children, dogs and cats in the area that doesn't seem to be a reasonable solution. I saw someone with a young child walking through the field recently, it would be quite unfortunate for an attack to happen before anything is done. Those that live here are aware of the coyote and are on alert but there are so many people passing through the area that have no idea and have dogs and children with them
