I totally agree with this statement. When the light is red going west and the turn arrow is blinking, you would think the traffic light for the people going east bound is red. WRONGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! Making matters worse is if there is an SUV or other type truck at the light waiting to go north on Schoenherr you cannot tell if there is oncoming traffic until you start your turn, which could be an accident waiting to happen. I travel this way twice a day and I have had people honking their horns at me for not turning on the flashing yellow when the light west bound was red. Well they can keep on honking, I'm not taking a chance of having a vehicle ram into the side of my car.

I agree with tommy. There's nothing about a blinking yellow that should make you think you have a right to turn blindly and that the other direction is stopped. Very likely at these intersections, if its blinking yellow, the other direction is green (if you're turning left). This means you definitely SHOULD be careful about turning left, keeping your eye out for pedestrians and oncoming traffic (just like with the old blinking red left-turn lights). Blinking Yellow by its nature means proceed with caution, which is a more appropriate signal for these turns. I think what is going on is that people are mistaking these for the blinking yellows at intersections when one direction is blinking yellow and the other is blinking red (such as at intersections when its late at night), where the blinking-yellow direction has the right to go without stopping (with caution). This isn't the same thing. These new 4 light left-turn lights are definitely not going anywhere - they're all over the area now and are the wave of the future, and many also change timing to adjusting traffic patterns, which is a good thing. Like anything, people generally don't like change. In the end all it means is that drivers need to be careful and pay vigilant attention (as we should anyway) and learn what these new lights are. The right turn arrow is just as bad. It's 30 seconds long, just enuf time for one car. It stops then 20 seconds later the the light goes green for all southbound traffic. Why can't the green arrow stay green until the thru traffic green light goes on?

I agree with Tommy too about what people should know aboutt the yellow lights. Yet I made this complaint because it "can" be confusing. For example, if you are driving towards an intersection and the light is yellow, you KNOW that the light for cross traffic is red. There will never be a yellow for one way at a time where green is lit for the other way. So as one approaches the intersetion to go left, the yellow can easily cause a brainfart and the driver goes through thinking oncoming traffic is red, just like when a green arrow turns to yellow... the oncoming traffic has been red, and will be red while the left turn arrow is green AND yellow. So people approaching the yellow arrow have already been doing this for years with a red light holding oncoming traffic. My friend totalled his car doing this. Yes, HIS FAULT COMPLETELY, yet the cop attending to the accident said, "I almost did the same thing. It's confusing." So YES, we SHOULD know, but that doesn't mean it's not going to create issues. That compounded with the fact that intersections are not the same everywhere just add to the mess.

Blinking yellow is the new blinking RED

Also Eastbound trafic green light lets about 3 cars through while the westbound keeps on working properly! The new lights at 13 mile and Schoenherr stinks and needs to be retimed!

On my way into work (1030pm), traveling west bound, when the light changes to cross Schoenherr (at 13 Mile), it turn yellow before ONE car can even cross Schoenherr. Its been like this for at least a month!

My wife and her friend came home the other night and my wife mentioned to me that her friend, who was driving, made the left on the yellow blinking light without hesitating. My wife mentioned to her that oncoming traffic had a green light. Her friend had no clue that it would be that way.

Yes, once again, she was in the wrong, but this light will fool many people.

Just this morning, there was a rollover accident at this intersection. Not sure how it happened, but I wonder if it had anything to do with this light.

Regardless of what we should know and what we should do, I predict that this light is set up in a manner that will see many, many injury accidents at this intersection. Vehicles are going to be broadsided by other vehilces traveling 40+ mph. It WILL continue to happen.

Just to add... There is a kink in 13 Mile road at Schoenherr. West facing traffic in the left turn lane can't see approaching eastbound traffic until it is close to the intersection. It looks clear but might not be.

I totally agree. Then you have the impatient ones behind you honking their horns. Great. They wouldn't be the one to get hit if there was oncoming traffic.
