Description
Hilliard Rd, north off Miller Rd, ends at Doris St. Last Friday morning, a speeding vehicle with several teens was unable to make the turn at Doris and stuck a house. The house power mast and gas main was sheared off. High pressure natural gas spewed out. The vehicle caught on fire and later the natural gas line erupted into a firey torch. The entire neighborhood was evacuted between midnight and 4am. The house suffered fire and water damage leaving the residents and 3 dogs homeless. The houses located on Doris have been hit 4 times by cars. Lives could have easily been lost with this recent accident. I am requesting speed bumps to be installed on Hilliard, just like the ones on Hilliard going south off Miller. I also would like the large yellow arrow sign that the city removed from the yard at 500 Doris St. put back up.The rresidents on Doris should not have to live in fear of ever car speeding through this neighborhood.

Truck Crashes Into Lansing House; Starts Gas Fire
(WLNS) - A Lansing homeowner has some cleaning-up to do today after a truck crashed into their house early this morning, starting a fire. It all happened around the 12:30 in the 500 block of Doris Street on Lansing's south side. Officials on scene tell 6 News five teens were in the vehicle when it apparently lost control, hit the house, and severed a gas line. Gas leaked out, starting the vehicle fire, which then spread to the home. That forced the evacuation of that house and several others in the area. Fire fighters were able to contain and then put out the flames and utility crews shut off the power. Police say no one was hurt, and the 19-year old driver was cited. The investigation continues.
