Manhole STILL open and particle board covering it increasingly rotted and soft. Just a matter of time before a child walking to school goes in and the City has a huge lawsuit on their hands.

Is anyone going to acknowledge this issue and address it?!?!?!?!?

It has been in this state for 6 months, maybe more. The hole continues to be covered by deteriorating particle board and is in no way safe! The hazard to the many children living on Carpenter street is to great to dismiss. Any of those children or the many that walk that route to go to school - a 1/2 A BLOCK AWAY - could easily fall into this hole.

Not as important, but of note, is the fact that this uncovered manhole takes up an additional parking spot in an already congested parking neighborhood. How many times do people in the neighborhood have to report something like this before its addressed??? Or do we have to wait until someone falls in before the city takes note?

It's ridiculous! And so is the lack of parking now. What are residents supposed to do? They should make some blocks area residents only parking.

As a fairly long time resident of the area who used to be able to park in front of my house almost every day, I hear what you're saying about the parking. It's been hard to adjust, but, to be fair, the permit parking that is in place on Carpenter is basically what you're talking about; parking for area residents only. (Unless you mean an area smaller than zone 7)

Now, the enforcement of that is another matter. On the weekends I see all manner of cars on that street without a zone 7 parking permit, and no PPA personnel to be seen.

One of the tings about parking in that area that @#$% me off is the people who live in the courtyard apartments parking on 5th street when there are parking lots within the complex that are practically empty. One household actually puts cones out on 5th from time to time so they can park right in front of their place. This when there is an empty parking lot about 15 yards away.

Unbelievably lazy

I hear all you are saying about 5th St. I've lived there 6 years and it sucks now. I hate it. I meant no parking for nonresidents ever areas. We get boxed out of Zone 7 with the subsidized housing and 6th St. and Washington, and South St. parkers.

Very true. This what makes that lost space due to the open manhole even more annoying.

I think the best thing about this is that my initial post was acknowledged and closed out by Philly311 and nothing was done. There was no follow up with PWD and no action.

Spoke to representative at Water Department. They stated that work on wiring was being done by Verizon at the location. This issue has been reported. Thank you. (mb)

Manhole is not closed. Issue should be closed when they are FIXED

Miracles do happen. Manhole has been covered.
