Work is still ongoing in this lake – Mechanical harvesting and chemical treatment has been administered and will continue until treatment is satisfactory. It’s an on-going management activity that can take several week and months depending on the scale of the effort. This is true for almost any nuisance vegetation request, algae bloom response, or water quality issue/appearance concern.

I would like to understand why when they come out to clean Lake Louise they never get into the north west corner. Please advise why this area is being missed. I understand that the contractor made the comment that it was too shallow in this corner but the previous people who did this work have always been able to complete the job properly.

SPTO is deployed as of this morning in Harshaw Lake but will return to Louise as well. As to why certain areas of a lake may not be cleared of vegetation; If a habitat has established itself and does not impede stormwater function it can provide water quality benefits that are not in the best interest of the ecosystem to be removed. In the case of Lake Louise's NW corner, much of that area is shallow and is a wetland habitat providing roosting opportunities for birds, shelter for fish, and nutrient uptake through roots. If this area becomes an impediment to stormwater function or excessively large it can be removed. At this time only certain areas of the NW corner that are not beneficial will be removed or chemically treated for vegetation. Thank you.

Update: Issue 13570312 was marked a duplicate for tracking purposes only. We still have an on-going work order for Lake Louise. The city prefers to mechanically harvest before spraying for invasive aquatic vegetation. This does provide nutrient removal as an added benefit, but does take longer than chemical spraying to control growth. Removal of the invasives has been a continuous effort but conditions at Lake Louise are conducive to rapid growth, such as excellent clarity. Each lake is unique here in the City, as we address over 75 waterbodies, for instance some lakes have worse water clarity and do not suffer from these same aquatic vegetation issues.

A crew was out yesterday for mechanical removal. Due to staffing shortages and equipment repair, the hydrilla growth has been a persistent nuisance and I will be reaching out to get an estimate for a contractor to assist in treatment moving forward. While a more expensive option, we did have some success in the summer months with this assistance. I appreciate the community involved as we work together to address this concern. Thank you!

It’s very curious that the “breakdown” always happens after the culvert is cleaned out by 12:00p. Yet it never happened in the other lane across the way. The city has been saying they have been “working” on this for 2 years. We will proceed with our requests for outside help until the lake is cleaned out. There is no faith in words from the city. There is never follow up ACTION.

For clarification: The City has two aquatic harvesters. One is in the shop currently. The crew who worked yesterday was alone on the only aquatic harvester that is currently operational. He worked half the day to attend to additional work responsibilities as assigned. There was no breakdown of yesterday's equipment. Thank you.

Update: the responding crew was out sick today but plans to be back in the lake with the aquatic harvester this week starting Tuesday. Thank you!
