Vehicles are traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Beakes and making a wide (radius) left turn onto 5th without slowing to a safe speed. The ballard and yellow striping on the east side of Fifth is not slowing vehicular traffic and they are making a wide turn then traveling too close to the drop off zone that appears to be only a half vehicle width wide. Please have Traffic Engineers observe the vehicular traffic and determine if there are other means for slowing down the turning traffic and keeping it away from the drop off zone on 5th. Thanks.

Alaina's Children's Center staff and parents have been affected by speeding traffic at this intersection--parked cars have been hit, vehicles have jumped the sidewalk, people have come very close to being hit in crosswalks. Parents park their cars on both Fifth and Beakes while dropping off and picking up their kids, and many more walk and bike their kids to the preschool. The speed of traffic passing through this intersection is dangerously high and the rate of incidents has increased since last spring. The Alaina's community is very concerned.

I'm one of the parents at Alaina's Children's Center whose car was hit. I was standing on 5th with the door open loading my toddler into his car seat. I'd been there for at least a minute with the door open (so it didn't suddenly swing out) when a car blew passed us and hit the open door. It missed me by an inch at most and badly damaged my car. The car's bumper was smashed to pieces but the car kept going, never stopping. It was a terrifying experience.
