Description

The newly widened road pavement with the buffer bike lane on the outer side of the west side of Fair Oaks Blvd between the newly constructed Coldani Street and Greenback Lane is not safe at all. With the sidewalk and road pavement expanded, it makes this buffer zone stick out from the merge of the outer travel lane in front of the apartments to the start of the outer travel lane again at the greenback approach, this construction has made enough space for the buffer zone to be a second lane, so you would think that it would fill in the missing gap of the outer lane here? When i use this stretch of road on a regular every week, i see some drivers use this space while passing cars from the end of the outer lane merge on their way to turn right onto Greenback. Sometimes when i see drivers doing this while in the buffer zone, they almost sideswipe someone who is entering into the official start of the right turn lane. They dont always use their turn signal so they cant know ahead of time and they are not expecting someone to be in the buffer zone already, witch adds another safety issue with this buffer zone. These people have to veer off to the left a little anyways so that can throw these drivers off thinking they are going straight past the Greenback intersection especially if they don't use a turn signal. Ive asked before if planters were being added and ive gotten "no plans" as a response. The best (and cheapest im sure?) way to fix this problem is to remove the buffer zone and replace it with the missing outer lane to then end the need of the merge and start of the outer lane again.
