I noticed that 75%+ of the sidewalks in Bangor look like they haven't been fixed or tared since the 1950s. Some actually have been over grown by local bushes and trees, or have so much dirt on them they are now buried under grass and moss. There are some places that are all broken up and bumpy and you need to walk in the street. Then they have areas where a sidewalk randomly ends forcing you to walk in the street anyway. I get the impression that Bangor isn't a pedestrian friendly city. Also considering all the "fake" walk lights too. There are so many old & new intersections that have cross lights that never change and when they do they only last a few seconds. Plus there is always right on red or some weird intersection type situation in which it's dangerous to cross anyway even when you get the quick signal to cross. Anyway, Some sidewalks are in weird places too. For example on 16th St or 17th street there is a sidewalk that goes up onto a steep lawn area (sort of a little hill), it's overgrown so it's obviously not used that much. But it just seems weird.
Yes I know the feeling,it has been over 36 yrs since a coat of tar has been put down here and they also stopped plowing the sidewalks also. I guess they don't care about the kids that have to walk to school too. I wonder why we pay so much in our taxes if they are not going to keep things safe for all in our city..Bob
