Description
Yet another accident occurred at the intersection of 15th and High Ave yesterday afternoon as children were walking home from school. This is at least the third, if not 4th accident at this intersection since July of 2022. A child is going to get seriously injured or worse if something isn’t done.
Traffic on 15th, headed east/west have no stop signs from Macvicar to Oakley. Cars continue to speed along this stretch of 15th. Additionally the intersection’s visibility is frequently diminished by the many cars parked along 15th and along High Ave.
Ideally we need a 4 way stop at this intersection to stop the speeding that occurs on 15th Street. I would like to request a thorough traffic study, including a speed study on 15th, occur asap. Someone is absolutely going to get seriously injured.

Thank you for your submission. Traffic Engineering is currently conducting a study of this intersection to determine what traffic control solutions it may require, if any. Due to a high volume of requests this study may take some time to fully evaluate and conclude. This ticket will remain open until the study is finished to provide an update.
Questions or concerns can also be directed to 368-3842 for further assistance. Thank you.

And the city will take your curb space whether it is feasible or not....took all parking on washburn and lane for bike paths that are used for parking by city....delivery vehicles....etc. etc....and only ticket if their is a complaint....reactive force....definitely not proactive....those people were promised driveways by the city only to be lied to....still no drives and new curb was left unlandscaped....driveways still not finished....so it is easier to take the parking....thank you very much

This morning a minimum of 4 police officers at Whitson Elementary in Westboro/Westwood neighborhood, complete with motorcycles, flashing lights and orange cones.
This morning at Randolph Elementary and along the 15th St corridor, branches still blocking yellow flashing 20 mph light in westbound lane. Bad accident at 15th and MacVicar.
The difference was quite shocking.

The study, in its draft form, recommends: NO Parking signs be placed on SW 15th Street approximately 110' from the "driver's eye" of a vehicle on SW High Avenue to improve visibility at the intersection. This would a create a NO Parking zone on SW 15th Street, on either side of SW High Avenue and improve intersection sight distance.
It is also recommended that the city reach out to the neighborhood (NIA) and set up a meeting to discuss the results of the traffic study and the recommendations. The impacts of the NO Parking zone on this section of SW 15th Street directly impacts four to six property owners; however, it should improve safety for all road users.
The meeting will be set as soon as possible. Thanks.

Last year, for a few weeks, there were slow down signs placed on 15th and Macvicar, those did seem to help at that intersection until the vanished. Cars don't stop for kids crossing there even though there is a sign. Why can't a flashing light and button like the many on 17th for Washburn students be installed?
The stretch of 15th between Macvicar and Oakley is too long without a stop or yield sign, something needs to be done to divert or slow traffic on that stretch of 15th

We don’t need traffic engineers
We need police to do their jobs and give tickets out. Not just in this area but the entire city. I’ve never seen a cop do their job and give tickets for running red lights or speeding. Never.

Rather than punish the people who live in the neighborhood by restricting their parking, consider enforcing traffic laws on those truly causing the problems.
