Description

Good morning. I'm a volunteer Pinellas County Park Ranger. While on patrol earlier today I noticed something unusual on a large concrete structure on the west side of the intersection of the Pinellas Trail and Live Oak Street in Tarpon Springs. This area was the site of a storm water project a year or so ago. This is on my usual route and I've driven by here dozens of times. What got my attention today was some cloth fluttering on top of the concrete structure. Upon closer inspection I found that the fluttering cloth was the remains of a sandbag that had deteriorated in the sun. Under the remains of the sandbag was a steel street warning sign. When I moved the sign I discovered that the concrete structure was a stormwater vault, and the steel sign, formerly weighed down by a sandbag, was covering up the hole. This is dangerous, just waiting for someone to fall into. I swept the debris off the concrete structure, replaced the steel sign so it again covered the hole. A steel guardrail was leaned against the concrete barriers. It appeared to be brand new but never installed, so I dragged it over and put it on top of everything to deter curiosity seekers.
