Description
Vehicles with extremely loud exhausts have been speeding through Jewett Ave all day and night, every single day and night. One particular vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, drives by at full throttle, once every evening and once again between 11 PM and 1 AM. This vehicle literally sounds like something exploding, and makes popping/backfiring sounds after.
Can we please have the Bridgeport Police patrol this area for a few days, so this issue can be at least partially resolved? It seems that there aren't usually any officers in this area, as these vehicles can be heard literally a mile away (they really are that loud) but it appears enforcement action has not been taken on any of them. This problem is happening 7 days a week.
Please do not give a response asking to call the non emergency number. Please just help us out as a community, as this is an ongoing problem affecting everybody living here that should be addressable.
Thank you.

Thank you for reporting the issue to the city of Bridgeport. Regarding the issue you outlined, as it relates to noise pollution from automobiles with enhanced mufflers, driven on our streets currently, the State of Connecticut does not have regulation prohibiting “tricked out” vehicles with enhanced loud mufflers, on our streets. The city does not have the authority to stop drivers from driving these vehicles that are registered. We realize that this is a quality-of-life issue for our residents, especially our seniors, but this would not fall under the city’s current noise pollution ordinance.
With that said, we will make every effort to try and get the matter on the agenda for the next Legislative session because this is happening throughout the state. Our hope is that it will get on the agenda and becomes a bill that passes.
