Description
Deep pothole in front of Chestnut Green on Salem st. The pothole is so deep it's down to the rebar. I hit the pothole yesterday in my car that i just bought less than a month ago and bent a rim. Needless to say i was very upset more so because there was nothing marking it so people could avoid it. Now i need to buy a new rim. I know it must've been marked at one time because when i walked back to see what i hit i saw orange cones buried in the snowbank most likely from a plow hitting them. So i believe this should have been repaired due to the severity of it.

Sad to see a civic forum being abused for commercial advertising.
The ONLY reason any dealership sells tire-and-wheel packages is the profit. Period. You personally probably also get a commission any time you sell one for your employer car-dealer. You know it and most of us know it. Just like the only reason life insurance companies sell life insurance is the profit. The difference between them and your dealership packages is that people need to buy life insurance because when the bread-earner in a family dies, the cost to the family can be life-altering without much recourse. Not so when you have a bent rim. A bent rim causes a bad day/week for the poor victim and probably $100-200 repairs. People need to think how many times in their life have they had a bent-rim.. even in New England... and whether paying dealership every time for this "package" can realistically cover that rare case when you spread one or two such $100-200 repairs over lifetime of buying cars/tires/wheels. Please remember the "VW guy" the next time someone like him tries to sell you one.. they will not hesitate to abuse a civic forum to exploit some pothole victim's posting just to make an extra sale or two that earns them a commission!

Wow, such hatred and vitriol. No advertising, no commissions. Only advise. Your ignorance shows, probably - the person lost a tire in the process as well. Depending on the tire - that alone could be $150- $250 (SUV tires being way more expensive)..especially on a brand new car, where you'll want to match the other 3 tires. Now, THEN you have to "attempt" to repair the rim. The repair alone would be $75-$100 additionally. However, depending on the damage...if it's an alloy wheel - it could compromise the integrity of the wheel, and might not be repairable. Considering it's the 2nd most important safety feature (behind brakes)...you'd have to replace that. High end alloys can be $700-$1000. So, say you're SUV driver - without coverage - you're possibly down a grand or more.
I had come to report that my street needed plowing - and saw this - no need to go on a hate rant.

Not sure where you get the "such hatred and vitriol" in my post... unless you have very thin skin :)
You, of course, had to cherry pick a brand-new-SUV-with-alloy-wheels-replace-tires-to-match example :) How about then posting how much your dealership charges for a package that "covers it entirely" for such a brand-new-SUV-with-alloy-wheels without prorating? I doubt you will post an honest quote here because that will expose your high profit margins!
Here is a question: Do you or do you not work for a car dealer? Case closed :)
