Description

I reported this one before: Large sinkhole at the bottom of the hill on Florence Ave, and it keeps getting wider and deeper. 3 feet across by now. Very dangerous - cars parked on both sides mean that your moving car has to straddle the center yellow lines to avoid a wheel going in the hole ... and straddling the yellow line as you go down or up this steep hill is a recipe for disaster because there's no room to get out of the way if another car is coming in the opposite direction. At night someone is going to hit that hole at good speed and either lose a wheel or go careening off into a parked car. Could there be a water leak under this spot? Thanks so much for looking into this!

Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

Hi .... if 'closed' means the sinkhole was paved, it hasn't been. I just went out and took pictures but unfortunately am unable to upload them to my laptop. It's a sinkhole right on the double yellow line between houses 396 and 4001, or 401 and 400 which are across the street from one another. And in the past year I've watched it go from a smaller hole to a bigger one several feet across. It'll get bigger in the coming year. It's in a dangerous spot at the first part of the steep hill because you have to straddle the yellow line to avoid it and you are in the way of cars coming down over the crest of the hill, and you can't see these cars until they are right on top of you. Just saw a car wheel get nailed by it as I was out taking the photos. Because it's a sinkhole it's really hard to see until you're right on top of it, at least potholes are discolored with jagged edges.
