Description
This is regarding the new construction on JFK Blvd and Bleecker st. Address is 3518 Kennedy Blvd. More than half of the sidewalk on Bleecker st. is taken up for construction. Shouldn't it be half of the sidewalk?

The Bleecker side, yes. They will be getting a permit for the sidewalk through our office. I wrote to their emergency contact and our office is working with them now.
They said they would immediately vacate the sidewalk yesterday morning and apply for a permit. Are the cones and fencing still there? They will not be allowed to place anything on the sidewalk until they obtain an approved permit.
For anything on the Kennedy side, you will need to contact the County at SCF Response:

Do you guys issue violations?

We do not issue tickets. We will revoke a permit if the permit holder fails to meet the tenants of the permit when told they are not in compliance and fail to correct it in a timely manner.
Once there is no permit or the permit expired, we work with the Office of Code Compliance, who can issue warnings and summonses. That office is the one you want to follow up, because they have plenty of inspectors (we have 2) and they are wicked fast on following up.
In this case, since there had been a permit, I decided to alert the emergency contact first and since they immediately replied on Saturday, I did not send to Code Compliance.

1. 3 feet violates ADA and is a gross negligence as well. It is foreseeable that wheelchair cannot pass. City employees such as you Althea owe duty to public to ensure enough width is provided, given that this is extremely busy passage and street. Foreseeable and preventable injury.
2. There is no birth right of anyone to have sidewalk closed for them. It is solely discretionary act on part of the City. It is tangible because it allows increase of financial profits of crooked contractor. As such, it is a public subsidy, and City freely admits that in exchange City can demand developer give priority in hiring to local citizens. Therefore, I request that audit be made of the developer and contractors, to ensure no illegal aliens are employed there. Unemployment rate among City Black youth is sky high, and this can be address by exchanging public subsidies for local employment.
Sidewalk closure is a bublic subisdy
