Unacceptable. I can't believe OAKLAND just keeps allowing this. It's not going to stop until u start handing out consequences to the folks that have no respect.

What would be your idea of a "consequence" for a homeless person?

They need to follow the rules just like the rest of us. Give them a work day each month to clean up oakland. Other cities do it. Take away their shopping carts. It's theft. They shouldn't be allowed to set up wherever they want. Give them a few choices where they can camp.

I agree, asking a person to keep an area clean is not asking too much. Treating them as if they are incapable of the most basic tasks is not doing them any kindness

Thanks WOak neighbor. If they were given a day to help clean up they might just feel better about themselves and have something to do besides making a mess . I've seen a few of them throw stuff in the trash before they throw it in the street. But since garbage cans aren't around the city it goes on the ground

All shopping carts in the area should have wheel locks that prevent them going outside of a parking lot. Unfortunately I would assume that this would lead to more trash/recycling toters being stolen.
