Description
Most vehicles on Meres blvd between Florida Ave. and Alt 19 driving in both directions are speeding excessively. Some form of speed control is needed, speed bumps, increase police presence, speed cameras, “your speed is” signs to encourage divers to slow down. Thanks for your consideration.

This entire road segment is within the municipal boundaries of the City of Tarpon Springs. By State Statue, the City has traffic control authority over Meres Blvd within their municipal boundaries.
Florida Statue 316.006; http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0300-0399/0316/Sections/0316.006.html
“Chartered municipalities shall have original jurisdiction over all streets and highways located within their boundaries, except state roads, and may place and maintain such traffic control devices which conform to the manual and specifications of the Department of Transportation upon all streets and highways under their original jurisdiction as they shall deem necessary to indicate and to carry out the provisions of this chapter or to regulate, warn, or guide traffic.”
The existing 30mph speed limit signs are owned and maintained by the City of Tarpon Springs. This area would be the responsibility of the City of Tarpon Springs Police Department to patrol. Any new traffic control devices would be the responsibility of the City of Tarpon Springs to install and maintain. Meres Blvd is however, functionally classified as a major collector road, so it is not eligible for traffic calming devices (speed humps).
I will schedule for one of our SMARTrailers (radar speed feedback trailer) to be deployed to Meres Blvd for a week in each direction. I will also assign this SCF issue to the City of Tarpon Springs. Please contact the City of Tarpon Springs Police Department directly for enforcement assistance, they don't seem to participate in SCF.
