Description

The heat in my building is controlled based on whether or not they think it's cold that day - there are days that have been freezing but due to negligence or choice there hasn't been heat. I'm wondering if there's something that can be done about this. The radiators I have in my room are leaky, and whenever the heat IS turned on I have to keep a towel around it before it sinks into the floorboards.

Q. Describe the conditions.
A. This 100 square foot room is $1225 a month - The floors and walls are in the main room are in good condition, save for the floor around my radiator which is starting to buckle. There is a large radiator by the east-facing windows, both of which bleed heat like a sieve. The bathroom has a smaller radiator - the handle to control the flow has been replaced with a screw-on top that has broken. This too leaks and spits. The tub appears to have been tiled over rather haphazardly, and I noticed strange blotches appearing underneath the plaster used to connect this new structure to the tub. I've requested a fix for this - the plaster was painted over. The blotches remain and are starting to gain color. The radiators aren't able to be turned on or off - there is a small window of time in the evening (on the days they work) I am able to basically store heat in my room. This doesn't last for long as - even with the windows closed - I find the room can get bone-chillingly cold. The kitchen is fine - my cabinets, counters, sink, and stove are all more or less functional now. I haven't had any problems with my fridge which at this point feels miraculous. The laundry machines, which I have been told are awaiting new parts, are nowhere to be found. I have been waiting for a replacement for six months.
Q. How long have these conditions existed?
A. Since I have moved in.
Q. Have you reported these conditions to the landlord?
A. I've asked about them - I was told how the heating works, and didn't ask any more questions. I've had previous problems (A gas leak that went unaddressed for a month, advertised laundry machines that have been broken for close to a year) that I've tried to address with them, and have been responded to with hostility.
Q. What was the response?
A. I have tried bringing previous service requests to my landlords', Northeast Properties, attention - however it has been a struggle to get them to take them seriously, or to acknowledge them at all. I was unable to move in for a month due to a gas leak that they refused to fix - until I threatened legal action.
Q. Would you like to have a determination of lead inspection (there must be a child under the age of 6 residing at the property to qualify for this inspection)?
A. No Answer Given
Q. Is there a child under 6 who resides at the property?
