If any branches overlap onto a neighbor's property they don't need permission to cut them but if ALL the neighbors feel this tree is putting them all in danger and NEEDS to come down totally..they need to all go to court together..small claims should be fine.If they get the judgement.. without the property owner being there ..if it IS a bank owned property...I'd be very surprised if they didn't take care of it.If it is private property..might be tougher.

This is the same house we'd just been complaining about because the people renting had their trash EVERYWHERE! They were evicted a couple weeks ago. The tree is so diseased it has to have a truck with a bucket brought in. There's no way to trim it. I heard from a neighbor that the starting estimate was $10,000...

That's crazy..I've had my trees done for MUCH less.The GOOD news is if it IS a REO ..either contact the lender directly or go to court and get a small claims judgement against them.They WILL take care of it..one way or the other.especially if there is a judgement on the property..it has to be cleared up before they will be allowed to close on a sale..but move quickly so they don't dump this into a group sell..harder to get handled that way

When this house was vacant and bank owned, nothing was done about it. City has been contacted numerous times about this tree and nothing has been done. The cost of removal was less than 3k, we've gotten more than 1 quote but nobody would touch it because it's not our property (this was before the house was purchased last fall). This whole property is terrible. Lots of nasty trash still in the back, house doesn't seem to be up to code yet it was being rented out. It's currently vacant but is listed for rent again on Zillow. It was honestly better off vacant all those years.

The last branch that fell and sat on the house for months was never really removed. Two men came and cut it up and it's still all sitting on the side of the house.

The city site does not indicate that it was purchased.If you KNOW who the owner is..contact the owner..or file the small claims case against him and force him to get that tree handled.Only will work if you are a neighbor whose property is adjacent to this one..if you can get every property owner affected by this ONE property..you'll have NO problem.If they were in fact evicted..is there paperwork anywhere on the house telling you WHO the owner is?

Garno Property Management is in charge of it. I have 2 numbers for them, no response from either number. The city should be able to do something, we shouldn't have to take anyone to court for such a simple matter. In 1999-2000, a tree was removed from this yard. The company that removed it said that this tree needed to come down as well. That's 15 years ago! Like I said, I understand it's up to property owners to maintain property, but when they don't & it becomes a danger to others the city should step in somehow. People were outside when this last big branch fell and it could've been a real problem.

Such a mess.

There's another big branch that snapped a few weeks ago and is just dangling between other branches. It's only a matter of time before this whole thing comes down. You'd think it would cost less to be proactive in this situation than wait until something really bad happens.

City of Lansing said they will not get involved because the tree "is not a danger to the public". My life or anyone who lives in my house doesn't count. Anyone walking down the street for that matter....apparently doesn't count either. This isn't your average tree, it's basically 4 trees in 1. This tree is so large that when it falls, part of it WILL land in the street, part of it WILL land on the sidewalk, and it WILL take down power lines. I hope and pray that when that time comes, that nobody is hurt or killed. What will the city say then? "Oops, our bad."?? The slumlord that rents out this house, that is NOT up to code by the way, won't answer/return calls. If the city does not want to pay for it, they should give this person/company a citation to take care of the tree. Garno Property Management is such a joke. They give citations for long grass on private property and that's not a threat to the public. If this person had to start paying for this tree to stand, maybe he'd take it down. I bet of this were next to Virg, it'd be gone in a flash. Such BS.
