This continues to be a problem

Speed should be relative to the situation. There is no way to enforce a speed limit, common sense should prevail, go fast when there is room and slower when there is not. I am an avid cyclist and just as disgusted as you with the speed freaks as you are!, but there are problem joggers and walkers and dogs loose and and and! It comes down to common sense and respect.

Please keep this open---speed limits necessary for the protection of pedestrians, especially children who also on the trail, learning to ride their bikes! Lots of speeders on the trail yesterday, May 12, 2016

I understand your frustration and I don't care for the rude riders that don't announce when passing either, they make us all look bad, however what is a speeder exactly? how fast is too fast? Are you the arbiter of speed for the whole trail?, the trail is not a good place for kids to "learn" to ride or for people who do not know the trail etiquette. I don't know who would enforce speed limits do you??, common sense must prevail! Bikers slow down when the situation calls for it and announce, hikers and families with kids, don't take up the whole path with strollers and be ready for people on bikes who do announce (most of us!), you don't need to jump out of the way or run off the path, just be aware and keep walking, most of us want the trail to be an inclusive and enjoyable place for all, but it takes cooperation on all sides!

Yesterday, everyone was out on a beautiful day and the Tingley Beach area and trail were filled with a variety of people on the trail , as it should be because, after all, all these people pay taxes and this is their outdoor space. The trail belongs to everyone. The only ones making the trail dangerous are the speeding racers, often in groups of 3 to 5. Again, the trail belongs to EVERYONE, families, children, walkers, strollers, runners, pregnant women, and the elderly. Then come the blasting speeders who expect everyone and anyone to jump off the path for them, lest they take off a forearm. Just as cyclists had to request respect and space on the city road, so they should show the same respect for other humans on a common path. The cyclists rallied for a bike lane and other parameters so they don't get hurt on the city streets, and have special signs. I request the same for the common multiuse trails, which belong to everyone. These multiuse trails do NOT belong the racing cyclists. Inclusive means everyone, all common citizens who want to spend a day outdoors walking, strolling, skating, etc. Especially the Tingley Beach area where South Valley residents have limited outdoor space and activities. Do YOU think it fair that a father can't take his 6 yo old daughter out for a bike ride on the multiuse trail? Or should he stay home for fear that they will blast right over her so they can get their race training in? I don't think so. Leave this issue open. Please. The multi use trail belongs to everyone!! I insist--it does NOT BELONG to the speeding /racing cyclists!!

You keep saying it belongs to everyone, and then you exclude the fast cyclists? If it does belongs to everyone and not just who you decide it belongs to, let's engage in dialogue with everyone to make it better.

The multi use trail continues to get more crowded. Is it possible to have a blinking yellow caution light with a speed limit posted in the worst congested areas? A good area to post would be the beginning of the north end of the BioPark to the south end of Tingley Beach area. It would be nice to keep this as a family friendly area and decrease risk of an accident when children are out for summer camp, family exercise, etc. Again, the trail belongs to everyone in Albuquerque. The south valley children have limited areas for safe bike riding or walking. Many families are at Tingley Beach and cross over to get to the river or nature pond. I noticed a sign posted at the north end of the BioPark but it is not very visible. Adding a yellow blinking caution traffic light would help it stand out to the speeding cyclists.

Update June 2018-please keep issue open---There are still a good number of cyclists who think the path is their personal race track! There were many parents and beautiful children out today enjoying the trails! Unfortunately, some of these cyclists still think that they can run over pedestrians. To the pedestrians, if you are injured by a cyclist, get their name, take a picture, and report it. Get a lawyer, sue for urgent care or emergency room visit, all your medical expenses, and any time for missed work. If a cyclist was hit by an auto driver, they would not hesitant to sue the driver for negligence. Spread the word!

Please keep open. Continued attention to safety on the trail is important!

2022---and still a problem. More families out during and post Covid-19. Bikes need to slow down around people and children and be respectful.

2023---The multiuse trails are full, especially on weekends. Families are out and about enjoying the Bosque, the weather, and nature. The Tingley Beach area seems even more popular. The parking lot is full on the weekends. There are still some cyclists racing through the area with blinders on who need to slow down and be respectful of families and children.

The new signs at the Tingley area are helpful. Last week a mother sprinted after her toddler, the cyclist did NOT slow down. A yellow blinking light would be helpful. People don't always read signs. Thank you!

Just when you think the things might be a little better---today 2/25 at 10:45 am on the bosque dirt trail north of central avenue---a gang of about 6 women cyclists apparently training for a VERY important race, didn't have the courtesy or decency to slow down while they passed me. It's Sunday, and it's a very busy day and lots of people are out walking. This entitled group in their $1500 -2000 cycles thinks the public dirt trail is their personal training course!! The solo cyclists today were very courteous. I am always in amazement at the hypocrisy of "share the road" ---they can't read the "share the trail" sign apparently. There is still a lot of education and awareness needed to learned by the cyclists, in the area of courtesy, safety, and share the trail. The trail belongs to all, you don't own it!
