This problem of vehicles being parked on the sidewalks is a problem all around town. Wondering why the SPD doesn't routinely ticket these violators. Or maybe tow the vehicles. The fines collected on parking tickets might pay for another policeman or two to add to the SPD force. Some residents believe this is not a very important issue. However, if you are a child walking to school or a parent of grandparent pushing a baby carriage, this is an important safety issue. When sidewalks are blocked on a very busy street such as Summer St., the pedestrians are forced to walk in the street to get around the illegally parked vehicle. How would the owner of the illegally parked vehicle feel if a pedestrian were to be injured or killed by a passing vehicle because they were forced to walk in the street? I wish for the SPD and the BOS to crack down on this illegal habit of residents parking on sidewalks.
