This problem has yet to be looked into. there are so many kids playing and riding bikes in the street not to mention adults walking in the street and they will not move out of the street half of the time. It is very stressful to have to drive through the neighborhood and I know the people who live there do not appreciate all the excess traffic either!

I cannot understand why the city chose to do it that way. STUPID!

I absolutely despise having to go all the way around to get to my neighborhood. When I have to pass what used to be the entrance to Reagan and go all the way to Tom hunter (not the best rd) and go through a neighborhood that has lots of crime just to get to Reagan so I can get home, someone had a major flaw in their design. It's rediculous. I dont see why they cant put in a turn off of Tryon and make it a one way street onto Reagan. Please fix this!

Routing traffic through a neighborhood with so many children is dangerous. Does a child have to die in order for Charlotte to fix this issue. Open a one way entrance at Reagan and n. tryon and save a child's life!!!!!! Yes it is inconvenient to have to drive all the way through the neighborhood but more important is your children who are at risk from someone who is aggravated that they have to so it and hitting a child. Please don't wait til a child dies to fix this.

Please turn this into a one way street so we dont have to drive through a busy neighborhood to get home.

I think what they did is very valid and is better for traffic flow on the whole even if it does "inconvenience" a few people, which it really shouldn't. And if you're worried about hitting a child...drive slower. 5-15 mph is what I do through the whole neighborhood depending on foot traffic.

This really needs to be fixed. Yes, I am afraid of hitting a child when they are all over the road, unsupervised, and do not move out of the way as you drive through. Even the adults will mostly just stare at you while you try to drive, never bothering to move out of the road. I do take my time to drive through and actually stop quite often waiting on them to get off the road. But, there are numerous cars that fly down those roads, almost running me over in a car, let alone kids in the road. Making this cut through a one way road would not impeed traffic. It is right past a stop light, and it would be no worse than someone turning onto another side street or business. Most likely it would be better than those situations, being so close to the stop light, most people would already be stopped or slowed as they should going through an intersection.

Kevin, it absolutely could be a one way road. However, making Reagan one way does not fit into the ten year CDOT plan of expansion and zoning that the city is trying to achieve. I work for AP, and was curious, so I called CDOT about this issue and they gave me a high level view of what they are trying to achieve. Honestly, their plans sound like they will take around 25-30 years. Still, the Reagan Dr change affects an extremely negligible part of the community so it is unlikely to change.

I'm interested in the state's attitude about North Tryon in general! Call 311 and ask for a contact person that you can talk to about this issue. It might be useful, too, to chat with some of the people in the neighborhoods you're going through to "enlist" them in calling once you have a contact person. Good luck.

Thanks for inquiring about the project. I have spoken to a couple CDOT personnel about this issue. My hope is, if we can get enough people interested in this, we might get WBTV to help us out.

We are going to try to get a sign out there so people can vote this issue up to draw interest. If that doesn't work CDOT said a petition is the next step.

Our goal IS NOT to get all of Reagan to be a one way. It is to get that Emergency Only entrance to Reagan be made a one way. This is because there is not another entrance on that side. There is however and exit onto the I-85 connector.

I don’t disagree with the new road modifications as a whole. I just don’t understand why this small modification can’t be made to make everyone happy. I don’t see any negative aspects of making that a one way. The infrastructure is already there. Just take those traffic cones out (that are already broken from people using that road anyway) and add a couple One Way Only Signs and we have a way to reduce traffic in a neighborhood that just recently added speed bumps because (I assume) increased traffic at increased speeds.

@mark hunter: It "inconveniences" a lot more than a "few" people. and even while driving at the speed limit-like some of the other people have posted-the children are indeed unruly and unsupervised. a lot of the times, when i try to go through, they just stand in the road or continue playing basketball, etc. and even the young adults/adults will stay in the road and not move out of the way for traffic. it wouldn't be making all of Reagan road a one way street (that would be stupid), it would be making the small emergency vehicle only entrance (what used to be the entrance to Reagan from Tryon) a one way street. not that hard.
