It has come to the attention of the Stark County Crime Watchers and other residents of Canton and visitors of Stadium Park that the Garden Center Fountain has been once again vandalized. We are asking that the Parks Department do two things: 1. Repair the fountain, and 2. Place a camera on the fountain to deter future vandalism. I implore you to show these vandals that we will not be deterred in beautifying this city and enjoying our wonderful parks!

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding the Schneider fountain at the Garden Center in Stadium Park. It was reported to us that children were playing in the fountain pool and climbed on the fountain causing it to fall and break. Unfortunately, the damage to the fountain was so severe that it is not reparable and the citizen who reported the problem was unable to identify the individuals who caused the damage. The sheer weight and size of the structure made it difficult to remove the fountain so it took us several days to clean up the damage.
Given the fact that this has happened before and our signage and enforcement efforts have not been enough to deter this activity, we are currently evaluating options to replace the fountain with a more durable structure. Unfortunately, the cost and time required to complete this project will push the replacement into 2016. We are instituting a pilot program for security cameras at a handful of park locations this year and the Garden Center is a primary candidate for the expansion of this program to help address these exact type of issues in the future.
