City of Oakland, please help this people without homes. Help our community to be clean and safe.

This encampment and illegal dumping mess has been here for over a year. Time for the city to remove and create policies that are effective because the current ones that address illegal dumping and homeless encampments are ineffective.

And shame on Lynette McElhaney that is the council member that represents this district. This street is a known haven for the homeless and should be cleaned up every single week. This has been on this site numerous times. START DOING YOUR JOB, THE MAYOR ALSO.

Before you blame any one you need to understand how big the problem is. Try reading the 2014 HUD report on the homeless. From our Federal Gov on down there is really nothing is place to fix the problem just a lot of shuffling and hoping the problem will go away. Santa Clara Co spent more than 500 million on the homeless last year to keep the problem status qua. FYI now 25% of all the homeless are in Calif.

David: There are many neighboring cities who don't allow this sort of encampment. Why does Oakland allow this to go on?

My issue is that no solutions are being tried. I haven't heard any of the city leaders address this issue. If one fails try another until one works. I know Berkeley doesn't allow dumpster diving , Oakland does. Try a huge lot where they can all camp OUT, put potties and washrooms. This setting up wherever they choose needs you stop. And someone might have to stay on top of it. Something is better than doing nothing.

Libby has only been on the job a short amount of time, so it is not her fault...yet. Lynette does have blame on her hands and has in the past said that we should accept the homeless since that comes with living in West Oakland. I don't share Lynette's view of low expectations.

Okay I'll give the mayor a pass, but Ms. McElhaney needs to step up and realize that the majority of the homeless are doing nothing but creating problems. If that is her low expectations she needs to step down or invite the homeless to live near her and see what her neighborhood would do.

I am willing to bet there is not a homeless or Vagrant within 5 blocks of home. Doe's she really live in her district???

Someone told me she does but u can bet its not near an encampment. Obviously she has no solution and would rather not deal with it. If she can't than she should step down. I'm not asking for a miracle to happen right away, just asking for her to do right by the people who have to look at a cesspool every freaking day.

So, maybe we should also leave inequality, racism, poverty, ignorance, brutality, violence, etc. be because all that comes with being a human being...you know...is just part of it.
