Please monitor Glenwood. People drive so fast up and down the street that I often see them driving fully into the opposite lane when they go around curves.
I noticed the new signs today. As a nearby resident, I am appreciative of them.
However, it wouldn't hurt if the police did check speed by radar on this stretch of road from time to time as people drive much too fast. I think that a speed bump wouldn't be a bad idea either.
That said, the reason for my reopening this issue is that while the "please go slow" signs are nice, I don't believe that there is a posted speed limit on either side of Glenwood from washington st to highland ave. So despite the fact that most morning commuters are going too fast to stay in their own lane through the S bend at Earl St., they can claim that they're unaware of what the speed limit actually is.
I was in the vicinity last year when a driver cut through the telephone pole on the western corner of Glenwood St.Terrace before coming to a complete halt with the help of the large tree on the Eastern corner of Glenwood St/Terrace. That could easily have been a deadly accident on that pedestrian-heavy roadway.
Is it possible to post a speed limit at both ends of Glenwood?
I completely agree. There is no posted speed limit so unfortunately "slow" is left to the individual driver to interpret. I'm glad the city is taking notice of this road and has put in new signs, but walking home just yesterday I saw no less than six cars in the span of 20 seconds going so fast up the hill where Glenwood meets Earl that they ended up in the oncoming lane. This morning we were driving down the hill and a car coming toward us came halfway into our lane. I'm planning on taking some video of it in the next day or two so that the city can see evidence of this happening.
Cars crossing into the other lane is a huge issue here. And, this stretch is desperately in need of a crosswalk, and something to truly make cars slow down. I frequently cross Glenwood at Woodland, Earl, and Hawthorne, with a stroller, and there's no good place to do it safely. I think a speed bump or two woukd be a great idea.
