Description
The streets in Research Park-Chipeta Way, Colorow, Wakara, etc. have become dangerous for bike travel. The shoulder is either narrow or nonexistent, road surface is potholed and pockmarked. There is a sharp drop off between the pavement and the gutter. Auto traffic is extremely heavy in morning and evening. Are there any plans to upgrade this area? Lots of students and employees would like to bike to work but won't out of fear for their lives.

Dear Jill,
Thank you again for taking the time to offer feedback and input relating to bicycle safety in Research Park. I passed you email along to our Transportation Division and received the following response:
"Thanks for this input on the streets in Research Park. Two of these streets – Wakara and Arapeen - have bike lanes which would ideally be wider under current standards. The other streets do not have bike lanes. Under the City’s Complete Streets ordinance, we will look at adding bike lanes or other bikeway markings when these streets are resurfaced. Our pavement managers have confirmed overall poor condition for several of these streets but do not currently have specific dates for repaving or reconstructing them. In the meantime, we sent your note onto the Streets Division with a request for a general pothole scan and maintenance. If there are particular areas of potholes, please let us know an approximate address or intersection. I apologize that we don’t have a better short term answer. In the long run, we do plan to improve this area."
I hope this information is helpful to you and ask that you might send along specific areas with potholes for our information and repair. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to connect with our Transportation Division at 801-535-6630.
Best,
Rachel on behalf of Mayor Becker's Office
