This storefront is completely disgusting. Whenever I walk through downtown with people not from Lowell, they always remark on this storefront and the ramifications it must have on the downtown culture and economy. It's a perfect example of why Lowell is still seen in a negative light by people in surrounding communities. Lowell has successfully utilized broken windows theory in the past to revitalize an area and reduce crime; this location even has actual broken windows and serves as a perfect opportunity to improve our downtown.

There isn't a more offensive eyesore in all of downtown. I have friends who have only been here once who reference this particular storefront above all else down here, to tell others how run-down downtown Lowell looks to them. I marvel at the courage of the small business owners who have invested their life in an abutting property, and I wonder when their faith in this city will ever be repaid. Are the taxes current? Are there code violations that can be enforced? (I'm betting there are dozens inside). It's long past overdue that the city take a long hard look at this place, and do for the citizens whatever can be done to force the owner to take responsibility, or to sell it at the fire-sale price it deserves to someone who can.
