I live in this area and make turns off of Carriage Way onto SB Gratiot all the time. When there is traffic, there is a wait, but it's for Gratiot. You can't stop traffic every 30 seconds on a main road for a less major road to turn. At night the smart intersection works wonders, most of the time the light turns green before I even have time to stop for the red.
