The County is aware of this problem and is actively working on a design to address it. We are coordinating with Columbia Assn. and Middle Patuxent Environmental Area staff on this as well.

When should I expect planning will move to action? This is a long term problem. The longer it goes on the more damage to the path. Then the path will have to be repaired, adding to the cost for tax payers.

The solution to the current erosion/path issue requires us to consider the State and Federally regulated stream and the sanitary sewer line, adjacent to the path. Therefore, the design, permitting, and construction to address the erosion at the path is not as simple as one would have hoped and requires consideration of many issues relative to the pathway repair. I understand your concern and we are working as quickly as possible to address the situation.

During the month of June the County plans to line the sanitary sewer pipe, weather permitting. This work needs to be done before the pathway can be repaired. Plans for the pathway repair are currently being prepared and the State permit to work in the stream can be applied for when the plans are done. A meeting has already occurred with the Maryland Department of the Environment so they are aware of the need to repair the pathway and the County's desire to expedite the permit review.

The current status is as follows:

- Sewer pipe lining is complete.
- Repair design is complete.
- MDE permit is in hand.
- Working with CA to get their permission to access the repair site.
- Should be able to start repair shortly after CA permission is received.

Thanks for the update...there are lots of folks who use this path and it's a highly visible issue -= any thought of creating an update sign similar to the hunting signs and posting near this issue?

I agree with HR diva. There should be regular updates from the county. The last we heard anything was 6 weeks ago and the issue was brought to this forum in April. The stream erosion and path destruction has been a long term problem. What is the delay with receiving CA permission? When I spoke with CA in April, they told me the county was the entity dragging its heels.

Authorization was received from CA two weeks ago at which time contractor was contacted to schedule the work. Weather permitting the contractor should be starting in about two weeks.

Work to repair the stream and pathway have been completed so this Issue will be closed. Thank you for your patience as we worked through the design and permitting process to be able to do the actual construction.
