Deskripsyon

As you can see if you Google "The Beer Store" at 800 Gerrard Street East and observe the 4 severely abused and neglected trees along the west side of the building, this is a depressing location that contributes to the "Broken Window Theory": that nobody will care what you do on this street corner of the city.

[I contacted The Beer Store in May of 2012, not sure if there are any plans to address this problem.]

Dying off one by one due to abuse and neglect (tin beer can rammed onto a ripped off branch stump, stripping of bark over a period of time), 1 tree now survives out of 4.

A disturbing site, these are "token trees" planted in cement without care for their survival by this commercial space. I suppose The Beer Store needed to technically fulfill some obligation to "green space".

It be great if The Beer Store or the City could re-evaluate this space, replace the 3 dead trees, and enlarge and protect their growing area. I know that the City is committed to an urban canopy and hope that these 4 trees do not fall through a loop hole where The Beer Store has a final say... of indifference.

Otherwise, the continuing abuse of already dead trees and graffitti that afflicts the buildings on this street corner read like an unfortunate cliche to the despair alcohol can bring to some lives.

Thanks very much with your consideration of this matter, I am very fond of trees as you may already have guessed.
