When turning from Kent St onto Sowams Rd the large bushes to the left block the view of oncoming traffic. In order to see past them a vehicle must move into the intersection. Very dangerous.

The issue at this corner is this;
The stop line on kent street at the intersection with Sowams road is offset 17' too far back away from the edge of pavement of Sowams road
I contacted the town over the last 12 yrs but they don't get it
At to the problem is people that are speeding on Sowams.
Intersection of linden road with Sowams is a much worse problem
A. Concerned mysterious citizens group is just trying to harass the owner of house on corner... Shameful

A mysterious group you say? I've always wanted to join one of those. Is there a secret handshake? Do I need to bring my own hooded cloak to the meetings, or is one provided? Sign me up!
In all seriousness though, this intersection is terrible simply because of the obstructed view. The stop sign placement is not exceptionally far back, especially seeing as there needs to be a crosswalk in between it and the traffic lane on Sowams (unless your contention is that school children don't deserve a place to safely cross the road). However, when a car has to pull up in to or very near to the traffic lane in order to get an unobstructed view, that results in a very dangerous situation for both the stopped driver as well as oncoming traffic, regardless of their speed.

As a transportation engineer this is why this corner is not as safe as it should be;
-speeding cars on Sowams. The faster the car travelling on Sowams the shorter the site distance for both the car on Sowams and the car stopped on kent
-a lot of people do not make a complete stop at kent I know because I see it every day and you can pull up to the plaza next door and study it if you like, many people got tickets for not making complete stop there.
-kent street intersects Sowans road at a sharper angle than 90 degrees 77 degrees to be exact so tge sharper tge angle tge garder the visability
Would cutting the trees and demolishing the house and make the lot a corn field like it was before 2003 make visability better? Yes it would and tge same applies to linden road and crossway road intersection with Sowams
And tge same applies to many areas of barrington

As a resident of Barrington, I agree that this particular corner is a safety concern. For those of us who do actually stop, (as you claim many don't) it is challenging to see oncoming traffic without sticking the front end of your car into Sowams because of those tall trees. And this is coming from someone who does stop at that corner. Those bushes are dangerous to us drivers and need to be trimmed back so that we can safely turn without causing potential harm to ourselves (or others) when we attempt to turn onto Sowams from Kent.

I am trying to drive the message to you that this corner is not very safe for many reasons and some I listed above
If you are a good driver you should have no problem absent of having some of these problems fixed with the most important problem is for people not to drive double the speed limit on Sowams and to come to a complete stop on kent
If you stop at the stop line and look left yes
You will see a wall of green trees so you need to move forward 10' and there is no visability issue
Do that and let me know if you still think the trees are in the way.
The town needs to move stop line forward to edge of Sowams road
you will see a wall of trees

What you're doing is making excuses. Poor ones at that.
The problem is not the speed of drivers. The problem is those tall trees blocking the view of oncoming drivers on Sowams.
When you come to a complete stop at the designated line, you cannot see the oncoming drivers because of those trees.
You are forced to inch your car forward into potential oncoming traffic in order to see if you can turn safely. Thus, putting yourself and others at risk for harm.
Stop blaming the stop sign or the speed of drivers. Simply moving the stop sign forward isn't going to change the fact that you still have to inch your car forward into oncoming traffic in order to see past those trees.

If the stop sign was in a appropriate place before the trees went up in 2003, it seems to me that the stop sign is not the problem. If your contention is that there are a multitude of reasons why this intersection is already dangerous, how can you defend the actions of a homeowner who makes it even more dangerous?
Concerning the people who you claim are consistently being written tickets for not stopping at the stop sign, don't you think having an obstructed view at the stop sign might exacerbate that? In order to see down the road, a driver must pull up past the stop line. By that point, the front of the car is already in, or very near the traffic lane, and you want them to stop there?
Do you drive 60 mph on Sowams Rd? I certainly don't and haven't ever seen anyone who has, despite the fact that I drive on it every day. I only occasionally see people drive 60 mph on the Wampanoag Trail, even despite the fact that the speed limit on that road used to be 55 mph.
On a final note, please stop with the insinuation that I or anybody else here is not a good driver. In fact, I am a good enough driver to recognize a dangerous situation even when I manage to successfully navigate it without incident.

You won't need to inch your car into traffic to see drive on linden road and crossway and let me know if visability is better at the intersection with Sowams.
Trees don't kill people drunk and bad drivers kill people
If you have not seen people drive double the speed limit on Sowams and illegally passing right at that intersection and infront of Sowams school then u have been living under a rock.
