Cars traveling up and down Oceanview Rd use it as a parallel cut through instead of ocean ave. They drive right through the stop sign on Garfield and Oceanview rd. They also rip up the block regularly going far faster than 30mph. I had a guy go past me today going at least 50 maybe faster. Asked a cop one day who was responding to a call on the block if they could do something about it and was told " nobody stops for stop signs around here" . Nice. They need to patrol the area or put speed bumps in, but they will probably wait till someone gets killed. Especially because kids from the high school regularly walk to and from school and also have running classes on the block.
Update. 6 months have passed. Nothing done. Watched a full size school bus with kids in it go right through the stop sign last week. The sad truth is no one cares. The former mayor of East rockaway lives on the block. Apparently he couldn't care less either.
If the police need revenue/quota all they have to do is park at the end of the dead end and they could write a few dozen tickets a day.
