I agree. Huge safety issue. I see this every day as I work in the Old Education Bldg. Better markings/signage is needed.

you might wanna educate yourself. that shaded bike lane means cars MERGE here to turn right. it stops cars cutting in front of bikes to turn right its much safer. its in the driving guidelines. its like this everywhere. i am big bike rider and this is part of the problem! nobody knows the laws... city raleigh you might wanna educate ur citizens here...

dont see why so hard to understand the bike lane is painted like that for a reason or cars just gonna cut right across and bikes will tbone the sides.....

CityHelper99, you aren't permitted to turn right from the parking lane. So, in your hypothetical scenario, you would be at fault. You should merge into the bike lane, but not the parking lane, before turning right.

should paint there to show people shouldn't drive there if its not supposed to be a driving lane. hard to argue its a "parking lane" if its a no-parking zone

its not natural to turn right from the middle of the road.. also in some spot like Wilmington and Morgan the right turn sign is located above the far right space of the road so it looks like that space is a right turn lane not for parking

On way to get coffee today i watched about half turn from lane (not in bike lane) and half from the "parking" "lane" so

I have a question. The article mentions you are not permitted to turn right from a "parking lane" however the rightmost part of the road at intersections is usually marked for NO parking. Are you suggesting that is a "parking" lane? Or should vehicles be permitted to merge and turn right from those sections of the roadway as is usually the case in any location with these types of traffic markings? I bring this up because if that is not legal, then there needs to be some road markings to indicate drivers can NOT be in that section of the road, period...
