Description
A few years ago a tree was cut down, not at my request by my nosy neighbor who then lived across the street. The stump has not been removed. It is a pain to mow around and it sends up "spouts." I'd like to the stump removed or ground up. Please advise when that will be done. Secondly, why would forestry take down a tree associated with my property without talking to me? Thanks.

Hi Michael,
First I want to say that I am sympathetic to your thoughts about your tree and why it would be removed without your permission and am interested in the response by the city to your question. Even though the homeowner is responsible to maintain the extension it belongs to the city. The trees also belong to the city and they don't allow homeowners to trim or maintain them. I don't believe that the city would have removed the tree unless there was something wrong with it. It may have been unhealthy and it's death was imminent.
Have them remove the stump and pick a new tree to fill its place. We just worked with the Urban Forestry & Natural Resources Planning Coordinator at the city to choose a tree and she was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Best of Luck,
Fred Pettit
