The maintenance and repair of sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner per Section 5610 of the California State Street and Highways code and Section 12.04 of the Oakland Municipal Code. These codes require property owners to repair and maintain their sidewalks, except where sidewalk damage is caused by an official City of Oakland tree, in which case the City's current policy is to take on those repairs. Unfortunately your request can not be addressed by this department. This request will now be closed.

These leaves are falling from City owned trees in front of a public school. How are these leaves not the City of Oakland's responsiblity? Furthermore, these trees have cracked the side-walk severely. When will the City of Oakland, which I love, provide the proper care for the city's property? In my mind, a city school property should be an example of care for the rest of the communtiy and not an dangerous, eye-sore!
