A Hinkley is correct :) The owner had wonderful plans, but money fell short and the building is back on the market again. The neighborhood would Love to see something positive in this building.

I have left a voice message for the owner number that I have in the tax file. The Cities processes on non-residential versus residential and not my forte. There are no code enforcement cost on the 2014 or 2015 taxes that have been turned over to my office. My message informed Ryan that I would be encouraging the City to pay more costly attention because it is obvious the ownership entity is not. Nothing has been done, and there are more broken windows. Is there an ordinance that requires owners to board up ans secure empty buildings, why is this owner allowed to get away with this?

Also, the fence around the building is starting to fall apart. I think kids are jumping over it to rummage around in the area.

Bats. I want to add that there are hundreds of bats going in and out of this building during the summer and flying above our heads and getting into our homes in our neighborhood. I'd like something to be done about this school too Ms. Wood.

The 2014 taxes were paid a week before the foreclosure deadline by three contractors that must have some investment in the property. I can see from the charges added to the 2016 taxes that the City has stepped up code enforcement. I was told a local non-profit has been investigating a renovation project for the building.

Code Compliance did check it out and as for the windows on the second floor and above as I said in an earlier post they do not board them. They said they would keep an eye on the property.

I wonder why they don't board up broken windows above the first floor? Is it only because they not are required to by law? That seems kind of wrong.

It is only worse the grass is not mowed and the first floor windows are still not boarded up.

A letter was sent to the property owner on June 6th. They have seven days to comply and at the end of the seven days the City will reinspect the property and if not complied with the City will have their contractor mow the site.

It really brings down the surrounding neighborhood. Why does this area deserve to have a building in this condition? There are no other former school buildings in Lansing in this condition.

I had a meeting with the City Attorney today and Code Compliance is going to start writing Court Order Compliance tickets which require the owner to go before a Judge where they are ordered to board up ALL the windows and clean up the trash. If it is not done you can be sent to jail.

April 2018 nothing has changed the school is still being vandalized.

I studied at this school. Last year I graduated from college, but this problem is still relevant. I think it is worth more actively to address this issue.
