Deskripsyon

The entire 400 block of Semmes Drive has hundreds of potholes. Heavy traffic count. Needs to be completely repaved. No maintenance initiative by City unless a resident complains. Patchwork is as rough if not rougher than all the potholes.

After several years of inquiry with budget woes given as the reason for no action, I was told in early spring that work would commence this summer. However, I am now told that it will yet be ANOTHER ten months before anything will be done and the work will now be in CONJUNCTION with Honeycutt Drive sometime in the summer of 2014. In the meantime, the potholes (not duplicated on Honeycutt) multiply and each one grows in size while there are absolutely NO apparent current efforts being made to even temporarily remedy the rapid rate of deterioration of very large sections of the street. Sadly, it can't be TOTALLY overlooked for another ten months. Ironically, it appears to be an "all or nothing" approach by the City. Presently it is NOTHING. By the way, the "Five Year Plan" designates Semmes as FAIR condition. Drive it sometime.

Update (one and a half month since my last post) - the 400 block of Semmes Dr. remains unfixed. I even called the City Manager's office several weeks ago and was told that the City Manager's office had no control over the project (????) but the streets department supervisor would call me with an update. To date no calls have been received or messages left on my answering machine. Again, that was several weeks ago ... a trend that has replayed over and over for several years. Meanwhile chunks of pavement keep peeling off daily/weekly with absolutely no apparent efforts by the City have been made to even temporarily repair the massive problem. It is quite a joke at this point. If anything is planned in the near future, it must be top secret. I still challenge anyone in authority to drive that block of Semmes and convince me that it is in FAIR condition.

Although a repair attempt was made, the repeated promises of a total repave never came to fruition. Today, almost 3.5 years after my first comment, the condition remains VERY questionable. Year after year I was told "next year." "Next year" never came. Understand that I was thankful for the better than average repair attempt some time ago. All previous attempts to just fill in many of the hundreds of potholes was a total waste of city/whatever resources. Other Pine Valley streets were totally repaved and their conditions paled to Semmes condition. I am closing this account because I no longer live on Semmes and it is not MY concern any longer. However, I feel compassion for the remaining neighbors who have to put up with the condition. As the City told me over and over for some 5+ years ... "maybe in next year's budget, we just can't afford it now."
