I live at 149 Schoolhouse Rd and my Labrador Retriever was attacked by a coyote Monday morning at 5:15. This happened less than 20 feet from our back door. Even though our dog is up to date on all of her vaccinations, I still called the veterinarian. The vet gave her a rabies booster and antibiotics and alerted the authorities(animal control/health department). Unfortunately not much can be done. Trapping is almost impossible because coyotes are smart enough to avoid being trapped and shooting them is not possible because our neighborhood is residential. I was told not to leave any food source outside and to use an air horn if they are close as that will scare them away. I would suggest close supervision when pets are outside and even more importantly, when small children are playing outside as well.

I am so sorry about your dog - poor thing! I let my little dog out the front to do his business about a month ago....because I was lazy and he usually just does a quick tinkle and I can watch from the door - this time I walked out with him and I heard a rustling in the lot next door and out came a coyote. He was in my driveway starring at my little dog...and me. I ran out in the snow, wearing only underwear and a T-shirt waving my arms up and down and screaming at him to get the $%#@ out of here and he side stepped back and ran off back into the empty lot next door...but the sneaky little you know what came right back before I could get my dog back in. They were only about 3 feet apart looking at each other and I ran at him again screaming. He took off and I scooped up my little dog and got him in the house. I don't know if he was more afraid of me or just disgusted with seeing me in my under ware :) !!
