Can we get the bike lane removed along A1A between Sunrise Blvd and ~NE 18th St. in both directions replacing them with [bike] sharrows in the right vehicle lane? (with proper merging to/from the bikelanes, ie: bikebox @ NB A1A & Sunrise)
I find the bike lanes along this stretch of A1A to be pretty dangerous with cars pulling in and out of spaces, people opening doors without looking, unloading cars etc., especially during spring break & summer.

We are currently studying the A1A corridor in this area to implement part of the East Coast Greenway and improve bicycling conditions. Currently, north of 14th Ct., the consideration is to widen the bicycle lane adjacent to the parallel parking, which would solve the dooring issue without the need for sharrows. South of 14th Ct., the consideration is to provide a two-way path between the parking and the sidewalk in place of the bicycle lanes, plus changing the parking to back in angle parking. This would reduce the conflicts for cyclists. Sharrows might be a good option in this area as well, for higher speed cyclists who prefer to ride on the road. Neither of these are final or even in design yet, but we are trying to do something to address the issues with the bicycle lane adjacent to parking.
I will make sure your ideas of sharrows and the bike box get considered as part of the study and any associated projects. Be assured the FDOT is trying to make A1A a better, safer place to cycle.

It's nice to know some consideration is given to improve A1A bicycle infrastructure. I like the idea of a bicycle only path separate from vehicular traffic WITH sharrows on road, as mentioned. Hopefully improvements will get done sooner than later. Thanks for passing along my suggestions.
