Description
Was this sign permitted and HDC-approved?
Sign appears to be permanent, it's a vinyl banner attached to wood stakes with zip-ties.
All politics aside; large permanent signs, banners, and billboards detract from the historic architecture that give our downtown its natural appeal. Other property owners are taking additional expense, time, and effort to do things the right way with HDC approval to keep our downtown on the up and up. Churches should be held to the same standard as they control some of the town's best architectural assets.

The fact that you are unmoved as a human being by the statements...yet are completely moved by the condition of the object...points to a lack of empathy and connection to your community. The fact that you do not acknowledge that the U.S. Constitution, and it's amendments, give precedence to the statements....points to a lack of citizenship on your part.
It begs the question....what kind of a person would get upset about the quality of a sign extolling a message of Christian kindness and respect, while completely devaluing the message itself?
A person with a very strange idea of what makes a good citizen, neighbor, and person...at best.
That puts this issue beyond politics or religion. It is an issue of ethics itself.
If the sign needs to be redone, then I hope the city will make every effort to help the church. And if it is a question of money, the community can pitch in.

Interested to hear why City needs a few months to address this when they are able to address other complaints in a timely, efficient manner.
There are 2 other signs stating that everyone is welcome on this church and those 2 signs look historically appropriate and do not stand out or detract from the aesthetic in the same way, so they are not being questioned. The messages on the sign are great, but the appearance and placement of the sign is ugly.
If it's temporary, when does it come down? It's been there for months.
If it's permanent, please give us a permanent-looking sign fitting with the aesthetic and we won't have a problem; this is why we have sign ordinances and the HDC.
Thank you.
