This is a russian roulette intersection during rushhour, A traffic cop would be a lot more useful than the lighta and the pedestrians challenge traffic at this intersection all the time. It is as if they slow down when the light changes to don't walk !! During a recent trip out west, pedestrians were run down and killed when walking against a don't walk sign. which is illeagle, and the pedestrians in the northend would begin to reduce in population if they lived in Las Vegas.....
Although I understand your frustration with some of the pedestrians, I think your view would change if you actually tried it. The vast majority of pedestrians are actually crossing the street completely legally ... the lights are not timed correctly. In particular, it is completely impossible to cross Grand without having someone in a car with a green light trying to hit you. This is NOT the peddie's fault, they have a walk sign. Killing a pedestrian with your car trumps jaywalking everywhere in the US criminal code. And all of these peddie's have been "challenged" several times every day at every single street on Main by cars who do not believe crosswalks or red lights apply to them.
WEll Bartender, I used to reside on Grand St. and never had a problem crossing the street when the light was green. If a Car was to Ignore the fact that the pedestrians have a right of way while in the crosswalk and they have a WALK light then I would use my cell phone and report the motorist imeadiately. Frustration is a good word and I understand the lights are terribly messed up But on any given day you will see many northend residents blatently crossing no where near a crosswalk.
Agreed. This light can take multiple cycles to get through as the traffic can back up from Rts 9 & 66 all the way to here. People also don't seem to understand how to turn from Grand or Rappallo.
The City of Middletown will officially launch SeeClickFix in October 2016. As we ramp up with this partnership, the City is offering a limited number of reportable issue types and we ask that residents submit only the issues listed through SeeClickFix. Other issues not listed through SeeClickFix can be reported by calling the appropriate City Department. If the issue you originally reported has not yet been resolved and is listed through the selectable Issues, please consider submitting a new report through the SeeClickFix system and we’ll be happy to address your concern at that time. Thanks and the City is excited about this new partnership to continue improving Middletown.
