Yes. Strongly agree. The placement of racks along the path is inadequate and inefficient. A well designed rack close to the building is needed. The area to the right of the doors in front of the windows would be ideal.

Agreed! More bike racks are needed and perhaps signage discouraging usage of the benches for this purpose.

Thank you for your request. We do not currently have funds identified for a covered bicycle shelter at the main library - this was one of the recently voted on Participatory Budgeting proposals, but unfortunately did not receive enough votes to move forward. However this past fall, in coordination with Library staff, our bike parking program installed 60 new bicycle parking spaces close to the main library, including 36 spaces along Broadway and Ellery, 14 partially covered spaces on Cambridge St, and 10 fully weather protected spaces in the library garage, directly in front of the building entrance. People riding bikes will likely continue to use the benches at times as they are very close to the entrance, where we are unfortunate not able to add bike racks at this time. Bikes blocking access to the benches can be reported to DPW for removal. Please check out the garage on bad weather days as there are now 20 covered bike parking spaces available with direct access to the library.

Can we get better parking of some sort, be it even a corral?

Hi TB3, I just wanted to reiterate that we have added 60 additional bike parking spaces over the past few months, 20 of which are partially or totally weather protected. Next spring we will be testing our three corral locations - they will be closer to CRLS, but may free up some of the spaces along the main path. That sounds good, RE the corral trials. What is there just outside the door, isn’t particularly effective and I think it leads folk up lock up to the becnches and doors and other unsavory places. Thanks for you attention on the matter.
