This pair of intersections has been mismanaged for over a year. Time for the city to take control from the state/contractor AND put the light at 16th back to 3-way stop.

I was just about to report that same issue. It's very dangerous! The entire Gandy, 94th Ave N, 16th St area is a complete mess! I would like answers to the following questions:

Q. Why is there a double yellow line that cuts into the left hand turning lane from 16th St to 94th Ave N? What is the purpose? It backs up left hand turners into the right hand lane and blocks traffic coming out of the businesses from exiting onto 16th. They sit through long lights and can only get out if someone is kind enough to give them a break.

SOLUTION: Remove that double yellow line and open up that lane( just past the post office there is a red arrow. Many cars turn anyway. What is the policy? Also, why is there no turn on red at that location? There is no cross traffic at all there. The only way to go is right. There is no significance to this right turn restriction.
SOLUTION: Make this a continual green arrow.

Q. When turning right from Frontage Rd to 94th Ave N, the "no turn on red" sign lights up for a short time and then turns off. I'm not quite sure if that means it is Ok to turn on red when the sign is not lit or not?
SOLUTION: Keep it on all the time or turn it completely off and allow turns on red. Another thought is a blinking red light.

Q. Why are the red lights so long yet the turning lane lights so short?

Yes, this intersection is now one of the worst and most dangerous in the Tampa Bay area. With traffic moving and turning in all directions, and at least 6 different signals, it's a badly-designed mess. Turning left (northwest) onto 94th Ave. from EB S. Frontage is absurdly high risk. And having only one lane on EB S. Frontage means any cars turning right onto EB 94th Ave have to wait an entire light cycle. Weekday rush hours, plus Wednesday and Sunday middays are especially bad when the church lets out. I would still like to see S. Frontage Rd residents and the church band together and sue the DOT, the contractors and the State for creating this horrible hazard, seeking injunctive relief in the form of remedial road and signal changes.

Putting a stop sign back at Frontage and 16th St. N would be great. It took me 3:30 minutes to go straight on Frontage Rd and get through the light at 16th and 2 at Gandy. And for 3 minutes of the time I sat there while NO traffic was coming the other ways. Ridiculous.

Joe's experience is all too frequent every day. The 16th St light is entirely superfluous and focuses on the wrong directions. Timing adjustment isn't enough. Remove it and charge the responsible company or department for the expense of original install AND removal.

Per the Traffic Signal Coordinator:
"The light for the traffic traveling west on 94th Ave N is actually red when the exit ramp light is green, but 94th Ave N traffic has traveled beyond sight of their signal. They are effectively trapped between lights. I have referred this to FDOT and asked for a stop bar before the exit ramp."

It is still almost impossible to turn left from WB 94th Ave onto WB S. Frontage Rd. even with a green light. This is because the "No Turn On Red" signal on the EB Gandy exit ramp is TURNED OFF during that phase of the cycle. So the left-turning vehicles have to contend not only with oncoming EB traffic on 94th Ave, but right-turning Gandy exit ramp traffic as well. Sometimes only one, or none, cars can make the left turn during each entire light cycle, causing extensive back-ups and delays on WB 94th Ave.

This has been referred to FDOT as they control the signals being reported.

The latest "fix" made things worse going the other way. Coming from the post office Frontage road turning left onto 94th, you now get a red under the underpass instead of getting sent through. But there isn't enough space under the underpass to hold the cars that piled up waiting to turn left for 5 minutes.

That was not my issue. I am speaking of the Frontage Rd coming out of Village Green rear gate. Any driver trying to make a left onto 94th in order to enter onto the Gandy, encounters traffic coming from the opposite direction on 94th often crossing paths with drivers coming from the opposing direction. I have witnessed many close calls. Apparently when I get a green left turning arrow, the opposing traffic must also have a green light (under the overpass). Please open this issue up of comments.

my wife has to travel through this intersection multiple times per day for her commute. I am concerned for her safety... please PROPERLY fix this intersection before a major collision occurs.

Somebody needs to call the news. The city and FDOT are just going to keep passing blame.

The City has been with FDOT working to resolve this issue. We are looking at a couple of options.

When the entire intersection is so bad people just ignore the lights. I've even had people behind me blaring their horn at me for NOT running that red.
