Description
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to file a complaint or if this is the correct type of complaint to file, but O'haras Downtown Sport Bar & Grill is, by far, the worst thing to happen to this neighborhood in Jersey City.
Every weekend on both Friday and Saturday night starting at around 2:00am, and sometimes earlier, up until around 4:00am, and sometimes later, the bar O'haras kicks everyone out. During that time, complete chaos ensues. Everyone starts screaming, arguing, smashing liquor bottles, driving drunk, and destroying property. Almost every weekend there are multiple fights and sometimes, but very rarely, the cops show up. However, the cops just move everyone along so they can clearly/obviously drive away drunk. Most of this happens on 1st Street between Marin Blvd and Provost street, right outside of the Oakmont and The Art House buildings.
Every Sunday and Monday, there is smashed glass from liquor bottles all over the streets and sidewalks. My dog has sadly walked through the smashed glass multiple times, so I am now more cautious and spend my Sunday's and Monday's cleaning the streets and sidewalks. O'haras is 100% responsible for all of this and something needs to be done about it.
One day, something very bad is going to happen outside of O'haras after it closes - if that hasn't happened already. I constantly fear for my fiance (who is a woman) when she has to walk past that bar late at night on weekend. The crowd is aggressive, angry, drunk, belligerent, and destructive. Also, I am extremely confident that cars, car windows, and/or other property will be destroyed on one of the more hectic nights. Something needs to be done about the noise, violence, damage to property, and all of the other terrible things that O'harras brings to this neighborhood before something really terrible happens.
If there is a better way to report this type of issue, please let me know. Thank you.

This bar is a smear on our neighborhood. This establishment has no respect for the neighborhood nor its customers. Weekend after weekend, they over serve their customers, who then leave the bar drunk to drive home. Why is there no police permanently stationed outside the bar to regularly ARREST drunk drivers?!
There is something to be said about the clientele, who often seem under age and always leaving the bar stumbling, screaming, and causing hell for residents at all hours of the night.
This bar just so happens to be on one of the most expensive blocks in the entire downtown neighborhood. I feel sorry for residents in the Oakman as they are all paying close to $1MM just to live next to loud screaming trash.

I agree with all of you! I leave at yhe Oakman and i have gone through sleepless nights because of the O’Haras customers! Inhave filed several complaints, i ghacr called the police every time and nothing seems to be done! They did hired a security guy/police officer but he does absolutely nothing!! Besides i also think that the sidewalk area is constructed illegally! It should be removed! As also a Violation of noise ordinance! They should not be open after 12Am specially during the week.. one of our board members sent the below below, and i also sent an email.. please see below:
here are the emails of the public officials that you can write to. And what was sent. Please CC me when you send....

I am a new resident in the Oakman building (160 1st Street) and have been experiencing a couple of problems since I moved in back in August 2016. After having reached out to multiple parties without much success, I was recommended to reach out to you to assure that my concerns would be investigated and prompt action taken
In particular, I have three concerns:
1a) Violation of noise ordinance: O'Haras
1b) Violation of noise ordinance: Pick-up of trash at 5am on Saturdays (one time event) and after 10pm Thursdays (recurring)
2) Violation of parking regulation:
3) Aggressive and violent behavior / absence of police to feel safe
Please let me know how you can help me. I am very much looking forward to a response and would be happy to meet in person / discuss via phone to provide additional details.

you better go before they call the police". No effort to stop them. It's been going on for years now and last night I recorded it all on video. I can't seem to upload it here, you need to hear it and see it to believe what these @#$% put the residents here through. We are done with all the problems from O'Haras now and intend to file a complaint with the alcohol control board. The JCPD does zero to monitor this, I already went to one of their regular monthly public meetings at the school and they promised to set up a meeting with the owner and our block association and did nothing.

My doorman at the art house was an eye witness to this fight outside of the bar...and yet no mention of the bar's name ANYWHERE...HOW INTERESTING. Sad that a father of three had to lose his life because the establishment he was in most likely, and as per usual, over-serving all of its motley crew of a patron crowd, while paying off local police to keep them in their pocket.
This is not a single complaint, what we are asking for is a PERMANENT solution to a SYSTEMIC ISSUE that:
1. makes the neighborhood DANGEROUS
2. lowers the overall real estate value
3. drives a wedge between residents and local business, when we should be working together
We really don't want to have to be downtown JC residents vs O'haras, but looks like it may go that way. I am not sure if O'haras would want to take on an ENTIRE neighborhood.

So after living here for a bit longer and understanding the area more, I really think O'Haras is only partially responsibile. Definitely still think they are part of the problem, but I can't say with confidence that it is 100% their fault. I think people that go to all of the downtown JC bars park on these streets. So, at the end of the night everyone that was at every bar downtown congregates at 1st and Marin-provost to return to the cars.
I've lived on this street for a year and a half now (in JC for around 7-8 yrs) and have to say that it actually has been a bit better since I first posted/they put up the signs and got extra security. Still not what I hope for 100%, but I see the effort and appareciate it. It still does get wild and dangerous out there and trash, destroyed property, and fights are a huge issue.
I think a simple, cheap (profitable for the city) way to take care of this is to really start ticketing the random cars that are parked illegally literally everywhere on our streets on Friday and Saturday nights - in front of the art house/oakman buildings and on every street corner around here. I don't think this will totally fix things, but it's a start.
