I see the sign and just ignore it. I'd rather get the $50 ticket for making an illegal right turn than pay $5000 to fix my car from the crash. Penn dot and Haverford Township need to remove the sign and pain lines on the street to allow this turn.

Suggest start calling Haverford everyday until the sign is removed.

i got bolt cutters and ill remove the sign some night. we need to get this intersection safe again before someone dies from penn dot stupidity.

It does not even slow down the East bound traffic that uses it with the turning arrow. What caused them to put it up in the first place? Absolutely dumb.

I have never seen an accident there warrenting this no right turn sign, it's so unecessary and makes traffic worse......I believe it is on the Marple side.

I ignored the sign 3 days this week at 7:45 am. I don't give a crap what Penn Dot says. The primary ramp is too dangerous, especially for people turning from right onto the pike from small roads like Glen Garry. We just can't get over without cutting someone off or causing an accident. This secondary ramp is a god-sent to the drivers of the area. Any cop who tickets you is an embarresment to the human race.

You've go a quarter mile from Glen Garry to get over to the right. What's so difficult about that? If you can't get to the right lane in all that time, another right turn 30 feet later isn't going to help.

Right turns are never allowed at a 90-degree intersection when there's a curved ramp for right turns preceeding it. (See westbound US1 at 252!)

Sage, Have you ever driven along this streatch of road at 7:45 AM on a weekday? Your comment reaks of stupidity from an uninformed loser. Come on down and give this street a try. After a week of doing this on a non-holiday week, I bet you either agree with me or cause a major accident.

there is a solid line of traffic in the far right lane heading westbound that extends from the NB 476 ramp to Eagle road from about 7:15 am until past 8AM. There is absolutely no way to make a left onto the Pike and get into that lane without, quite literally, cutting someone off and risking an accident, which I have had to do every morning for 2 weeks now.

However, just about 100% of the traffic in that jammed right lane is getting on the first NB 476 ramp, meaning that you can easily get over to the right lane just after the 1st ramp and before the second one (where you are now no longer allowed to turn), from the middle lane (NOT from the left turn only Lawrence road lanes)

BTW, it is not a curved ramp, it is a 90 degree turn for both WB and EB traffic getting onto that second slip ramp, so it was a perfectly legal turn until someone decided to put that sign up.

I watched numerous people disregard this sign this morning while I sat patiently in the correct lane and I observed the hazard they created which is slowing down the merge traffic causing further back-ups on WCP. I agree this is a problem but breaking the rules is not the solution contact Penndot and have them really fix the problem the townships are unable to make/correct problems on state highways

And EVERYONE ignores the Yield sign once they do get on the ramp... If you are entering the ramp to NB 476 from WB West Chester Pike, you must YIELD to those entering the ramp from EB West Chester Pike... if you don't yield, I'm not stopping, and if you sideswipe me, it's YOUR fault...

The installation of the sign is actually pretty uniform practice. If you look at the interchanges at US30 and I476 one exit north of PA3 and I476 you see the same signs. This design follows the required Federal regulations, which must be followed if the Commonwealth wants to receive Federal funding.

Apples and Oranges Ryan. The 30 & 476 intersection has a dedicated lane for about 100 yards AND no intersecting traffic light for well over 1/4 mile before it (route 320), there is absolutly no issue with getting into the right lane getting onto 476 North from 30. Completely different situation.

As for the federal funding, I'd like to see the section of the code mandating where a no right turn sign must be erected at a 90 degree right turn secondary on ramp or Federal Funds will be denied to a state/county/municipality.

There is nothing uniform about this intersection, if it were possible to get into the right lane without literally cutting someone off and nearly causing an accident, it would be a different issue. But people getting onto the pike at any point west of Eagle road are forced to either cut someone off and get the finger/honk road rage, or go past the intersection and do a U turn (not sure how this improves traffic flow for EB traffic) or ignore the newly errected sign. Even assuming you are correct about the funding issue, I'm confident that any review board would find this was an easy exception.

This was really dumb. Why did they put this sign up? Opposing traffic was not affected at all when people made a right onto this ramp. Take this sign down. I agree with the comments above.

Cry me a river....Now you have to wait in line like everyone else on WCP to get on 476. By the way don't try and get in front of me on the right hand lane, I never let anyone in.

To all those who claim that using the proper ramp would "cause a major accident" I'd like to see your proof. When I had to commute that way, it always seemed like the people making the 90 degree right turn were just being smartasses who didn't want to wait their turn. Like someone else said, they just make things worse by doing that. I never had a problem getting into the proper entrance ramp from the light that is just before the ramp. Lawrence Road I think, not sure since I haven't had to go that way for over a year.

What proof can anyone provide, other than the middle fingers and people laying on their horn or following all the way up to the bumper of the car in front of them to dis-allow the safe and timely entrance into the right lane to get on the first (proper) ramp. Unless you get on WC Pike at some point east of Eagle road, you have to either "get lucky" and find an open spot to get in, or risk an accident or road rage by cutting someone off. I would GLADLY wait in the right hand lane for my turn instead of now either breaking the law by making a right onto the slip ramp, or doing a U-turn further up the pike to come back and make a legal left onto the slip ramp.

Havertown Commuter -- You sound like someone who is able to put together a coherent arguement, which is a pleasure compared to some of these rants. Please e-mail your complain to John Roman at Road Rant. He works for the Delco Times. Google him on their website. He has done a good job getting answers as to why Penn Dot does dumb things. Perhaps he can help you fix this problem. If you write with good English in a clear coherent way, he will probably feature this issue or at least respond to your e-mail. Still taking my life in my hands every morining by cutting someone off in the right lane if I get an opening or making the illegal turn onto the slip ramp.

I live in West Gate and have the same problem Havertown Commuter describes. Some mornings, I have cut across the Pike, went down Stanton to Robinson (?), go left then right on Mt Pleasant, then make a left Lawrence, and a right back on the pike right before the 476NB ramp just to avoid the uncomfortable aggressiveness I have to give out and take. I do see people making the turn anyway, now illegally, and wish the sign wasn't there!

I came on here for the first time today to report this very issue. This was a very safe way to get on the blueroute if you were unable to sneak your way into the far right lane. It also does not impede traffic coming from the west in any way. Take down this sign.

I agree 100%. The sign should be taken down and the turn should be legal.
