Description
There is a gap of approximately a quarter mile on southbound where there is no bike lane. The lane ends abruptly where an access to an apartment complex exits East Lake / McMullen Booth. Bollards were recently installed in the center a portion of the existing bike lane which give warning before curb is encountered but require cyclists to merge with traffic for a longer duration. A narrow piece of sidewalk had been available for cyclists to exit East Lake and use the merge lane to avoid the segment where bike lane is not provided but the bollards have made this inaccessible and the width of that sidewalk and angle relative to the rest of the bike lane was not adequate for bicycle traffic.
Please consider improvements to this area for cyclist safety. Widening and extending the exit ramp for cyclists is one option. Removing the concrete median and placing quick curb/bollards is another. The East Lake Trail north of here brings quite a few cyclists to the area, and there is existing bike lane to the north and south of this point.
Cheers.

The section of the Pinellas Trail from Chesnut Park to Enterprise Road is currently in design as part of a design-build project. Construction is expected to begin in May 2019 and be complete in the summer of 2020.
The trail will be on the west side in this area of East Lake Road.
