There is no crosswalk crossing Massachusetts Ave NW between 46th St NW and 48th St NW (about 0.2 miles) - there should be one at the corner of Massachusetts Ave NW and 47th St/Van Ness St NW. There used to be one before the repaving and re-striping of this part of Mass. Ave. Therefore there is no legal way to cross Mass Ave for over 2/10 of a mile - very dangerous!

Hopefully, we can have a crosswalk painted at this intersection.
You are, legally, permitted to cross at an intersection without a traffic signal that does not have a painted crosswalk.
In fact, at an intersection without traffic signals, you as a pedestrian have the right of way regardless of whether there is a painted crosswalk or not.
Here is the relevant DC Code:
§ 50-2201.28. Right-of-way at crosswalks.
(a) When official traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall stop and give the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.

I totally agree with and support your efforts to improve the safety at this at other intersections. You should contact District Department of Transportation and Councilperson Cheh to see if all of your suggestions can be implemented.
The intent of my earlier comment was to clarify for all pedestrians and drivers that it is legal in the District for a pedestrian to cross at an intersection that does not have a painted crosswalk.

Thank you, jdesmart, for keeping on top of this issue.
I think it will benefit everyone who lives along or otherwise uses this stretch of Mass Ave.
I bike and jog around this area and totally agree that the amount of and speed of vehicular traffic requires appropriate pavement markings and signage in order to be pedestrian and bike friendly.
Looking forward to seeing the paint on the ground!

Did you do it recently? Because this particular issue doesn't have a reply from 311. I'd suggest copying this report and pasting it into a brand new report so you can be sure 311 has a ticket number for it.
I just called 311 and requested an update on issue #228114 and was told to call DDOT at 202-671-2700 to check on the status. When 311 looks up that number they find a different ticket that was sent to DMV.
