A proper crosswalk is needed so that pedestrians who are walking along the sidewalk that wraps up by the Pie Shoppe can cross Watchung Ave to catch the train.
Does someone need to get hit before the crosswalk is installed?

I'm sceptical about a crosswalk making that much of a difference. They appear to be regularly ignored on Grove, for example. More, I worry about people wearing "city-work clothing" (that is: dark colors) crossing at night.
Why not a traffic light? Admittedly, lighting the entire intersection would be a bit complex given the three or four distinct intersections of roads right there, but I cannot imagine that the problem cannot be resolved by a properly synchronized set of lights protecting the entire intersection.
